The Nord Franche Comté fortified belt

The fortified belt, built in Nord Franche-Comté at the end of the 19th century by General Séré de Rivières is a strong marker of our region’s military heritage. Aware of the tourist potential that this complex of structures represented, a group was set up to study the possibilities, with members from the Grand Belfort Communauté d’Agglomération, the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération, the Communauté de Communes du Pays d’Héricourt and the Communauté de Communes des Vosges du Sud. In 2019 a study was carried out by a consultancy specialising in heritage enhancement, leading a tourism development plan for this fortified network, followed by the implementation of an action plan steered by Grand Belfort through a joint agreement.

In order to ensure a common identity and the appearance of a network, a graphic charter has been designed, comprising:

A logo:

  • Featuring a GPS pointer, to symbolise roaming
  • A gateway, such as the Brisach gateway, which invites visitors to discover and explore this military architectural heritage
  • 21 briquettes, forming a jigsaw puzzle in reference to the 21 forts

A slogan: FRANCHEMENT FORT
